“Rising Tide” are a small group of Aussie radicals who are trying to stand out in a crowded marketplace of climate extremist groups.
More than 100 charged after climate protest blocks Port of Newcastle
By Jorge Branco
Adam Vidler 7:07am Nov 27, 2023More than 100 people have been charged after a climate change protest at the Port of Newcastle.
The activists, including a 97-year-old grandfather and a coal miner, had permission for a 30-hour protest at the world’s largest coal port but when they refused to leave at 4pm on Sunday, police moved in.
Subsequently, 109 people – including 49 males, 60 females, five of which were under 18 – were arrested.

Rising Tide organiser Alexa Stuart called on the Albanese government to block new coal projects and tax coal export profits at 75 per cent to help fund the move away from fossil fuels.

Pictures in the 9 News Article show the usual display of fossil fuel derived fabrics being worn by painfully ignorant protestors showing a complete lack of self awareness – but we’ve come to expect that.
Their demand for a 75% coal tax is no joke.
Australia is in an interesting position, of being a major global supplier of high quality coking coal, so imposing a 75% tax would be highly disruptive to the economies of many of Australia’s more populous neighbours. Wars have been started for less.
I mean, imagine a world in which Mexico controlled a major US economic lifeline, then suddenly decided to impose a 75% tax, to try to force a change in US policy. I’d imagine people in the USA would be pretty upset by such a hostile move. Australia’s commodity dependent neighbours are no different.
None of this matters to the protestors of course. If they were capable of joined up thinking, they probably wouldn’t waste their time belonging to a group like “Rising Tide”.
Better behaved than Extinction Rebellion, but every bit as mad. In the sense of “off their meds”, not “angry”.
Hunter Biden wants to check out that coking coal.
Didn’t they already find a small baggy of fine black powder outside the situation room?
Or was that a different situation?
Black Powder Matters
G’Day Bryan,
“…a small baggy of fine black powder…”
Guy Fawkes planed on something a bit bigger.
Just another rent-a-mob looking for a cause, ‘rebels without a clue’.
Lots of rotomoulded plastic boats as well.
Tides come in and tides go out.
”The Angry Sea” would have been better. But then these morons never have shown any imagination.
‘Risible Tripe’ would have been better.
They didn’t obey the rules for their authorized protest. There should be no reason to allow them another protest.
See, let them block your highways and byways and next they’ll be taxing you for the privilege.
Don’t give the government any ideas for a green toll to use public roads.
I hope they all walked to the protest, carrying their canoes on their backs.
If not, then they aren’t serious and some significant jail time awaits them.
If they did walk there and were in non-plastic canoes, wearing no man made fibres, then I’d let them off.
I’m not going soft, I’m a realist, none of them will qualify for a get out jail free card. Everyone of them should get a portion of the bill for the policing and a fine equivalent to the delays imposed for the delayed shipping.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the media followed them from their cars before the protest, highlighting all the expensive vehicles, the synthetic clothing, the life vests, etc. Imagine that…. and then back track to their homes and look at the power bills supporting their lifestyles. None of them live in caves, nor do they eat bugs.
None of them live in caves, nor do they eat bugs.
No, that’s for everyone else, not them.
Teenager at the front, we have seen this model eNGO previously. How are they linked with the others? Is there an Anthony Albanese connection (i.e. political astro-turfing).

Bunch of muppets. Coddling them won’t help. Until they see that the penalty isn’t worth the risk then they won’t stop. They need to be taught a lesson that actions have consequences.
In one of the pictures I see that they had an inflatable unicorn.
Says it all, really.
But years ago during the GB miners strike I had to take a ship loaded with coal to the jetty of a local coal burning power station which was being picketed by miners both at the gate and in rowing boats chained together in a loop around the jetty.
Before boarding the ship I went by road to the power station to speak to the pickets at the gate. I explained that under the law I had no alternative to berthing the ship and was liable to being imprisoned for up to two years if I didn’t do so unless the weather was unsuitable. I also explained that I would be dropping the anchor near the jetty.
Strangely, there were no boats around the jetty when I berthed the vessel.
Coal is just old trees that nature has heated and compressed for easy storage.
Then they all drove home, each in his own SUV and there they used more fossil fuels…
I’m waiting for these morons to start gluing themselves to the boats, preferably very close to the water line.
You can’t negotiate with a cult – ask the Israelis.
